The 2017 Kia Niro is the Hybrid That Doesn’t Seem Like a Hybrid

It doesn't look like a hybrid.

It doesn't feel like a hybrid.

It doesn't drive, pack, strut, or gloat like a hybrid. But, it's the new 2017 Kia Niro, and it's optimistically expecting to return up to 50 miles to the gallon in Urbana from its 146-horsepower hybrid-electric engine.

Debuted just today in Chicago, the new Niro is the brand's very first dedicated hybrid. Unlike eco-friendly versions of the Soul and Optima, this green machine was built from the ground up to be all hybrid, all the time. And the results are really showing.

The 2017 Niro bears an interesting resemblance to the also recently-released Kia Sportage, but with its own specific twist. But, you'll notice, it does look like any other crossover. There's no bragging and no outlandish "hybrid" look to it at all. And that could really be what sets it apart in an ever-growing market that demands high fuel efficiency with class and capability.

The long-awaited Kia Niro will join the new lineup of Kia hybrids later this year, and is the only subcompact crossover hybrid currently on the market--if you've been considering buying a new car in Urbana, this might be worth the wait.
